RWE’s Future Bright report: transforming communities across the UK
19.12.2024
RWE, the UK’s number one power producer and one of the world's leading renewables companies, is pleased to announce that full planning consent has been granted for its Clachaig Glen Wind Farm, located near Carradale, Argyll & Bute.
The project, when constructed, will feature 12 wind turbines, including five turbines with blade tip heights of up to 200 meters and seven turbines with tip heights of up to 185 meters. The wind farm will also include a battery storage facility and additional associated infrastructure.
The turbines will have a maximum installed generation capacity of up to 53 megawatts (MW), enabling Clachaig Glen Wind Farm to potentially provide renewable electricity equal to needs of approximately 54,000 homes*. The project will make an important contribution to the achievement of Scotland’s renewable energy targets and will support energy security for the region. Beyond its positive environmental impacts, the project will also support the local community through the delivery of an annual benefit fund of around £265,000, to support important local initiatives and developments.
Victoria Allen, Head of Onshore Renewables Development Scotland: "We are delighted to have received full planning consent for our Clachaig Glen Wind Farm. This approval marks a significant milestone for the project near Carradale, and will add further meaningful investment and clean energy to the local area. We’re excited to be moving forward with Clachaig Glen and to working closely with local community groups and other local stakeholders to deliver a successful project that will help contribute to both local and national renewable energy targets.”
A final investment decision is anticipated by late summer 2026, with construction expected in autumn 2026. The Clachaig Glen Wind Farm is projected to reach commercial operation by April 2028.
RWE has a successful history of delivering onshore wind in the UK. It already operates a portfolio of 32 onshore wind sites with a combined installed capacity of 735 MW, and now has a further 168 MW currently under construction in Scotland. In addition, the company has a strong onshore wind development pipeline of 22 projects across Scotland and Wales.
