Harvesting the Sun
Responsible construction
This charter sets out 15 commitments for how RWE will develop all our UK solar and storage projects. We are committed to delivering projects that benefit the local community and the natural environment and that respect local heritage and the landscape.
Environmental benefits
Thanks to our extensive experience of developing solar projects across the UK, we have developed a close, collaborative relationship with landowners that we work alongside to realise our projects.
In doing so, we remain committed to ensuring the best possible economic and agricultural benefits can be achieved for those landowners who host our projects, while also playing an important role in protecting the environment, securing UK energy supply, and helping delivery Net Zero.
We aim to design our solar farms, and manage them to enhance biodiversity.
Landowner insights
Solar farms are essential for decarbonising the UK’s power system and offer British farmers a valuable opportunity to diversify their income. By using some of their land to host solar farms, farmers can make their businesses more resilient against the impacts of climate change, which are already affecting crop yields and farm revenues.
RWE contributes £2m annually to farm businesses through land rent payments, a figure set to grow. This steady source of income ensures the long-term sustainability of their operations and enables British farmers to continue producing food on their most productive fields.
