RWE is launching a public consultation for its proposed Grangemouth Green Hydrogen production facility, a major project aimed at reducing industrial carbon emissions in the Grangemouth area. The project will produce green hydrogen through the electrolysis of water, using renewable energy from the electricity grid.
The green hydrogen generated by the facility will be delivered via pipeline to a nearby industrial plant, cutting CO2 emissions across the Grangemouth industrial cluster.

The plant, located within the Grangemouth industrial area, will be capable of producing up to 3.6 tonnes of green hydrogen per hour. The project is still at an early design stage, however comprehensive environmental assessments are underway, with a scoping report already submitted to Falkirk Council.
RWE is committed to a meaningful consultation with the local community and as such has launched a project consultation to encourage community engagement and feedback. RWE will hold two public consultation events. The first is on Wednesday, 11 December 2024, 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at Grangemouth Community Education Unit, 69-71 Abbots Road, Grangemouth, FK3 8JB.
The second consultation event will be in early 2025, the online exhibition will be available on the 11th December.
RWE currently owns or operates around 480 megawatts (MW) of installed renewable capacity in Scotland across 26 sites, including 15 hydropower plants, 10 onshore wind and one offshore wind farms, as well as the 55MW biomass combined heat and power plant in Fife. RWE has offices in Perth and Inverness and directly employs around 100 people (and many more indirectly) at the company’s sites and in offices across Scotland.
