RWE, Wales’ largest energy generator and operator of over 78 MW of hydro power stations across the UK, has celebrated the successful completion of a two-year maintenance programme at the historic Cwm Dyli power station. Situated in the foothills of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) within Eryri (Snowdonia), Cwm Dyli is a feat of engineering and a testament to renewable energy resilience.
Built in 1906, Cwm Dyli is the UK’s longest continuously operating power station. The plant sources water from Llyn Llydaw, a natural lake known for its annual rainfall, and continues to play a vital role in sustainable energy generation.
Over the past two years, RWE partnered with Jennings Building and Civil Engineering Ltd to undertake complex repairs to the 2km-long pipeline feeding the station. The project faced significant challenges, including rugged terrain and the logistical difficulty of transporting materials, which had to be delivered by helicopter. To ensure safety, Jennings collaborated with the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team to develop a comprehensive emergency plan.
Recognizing the critical work of the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team—both in standby for this project and in their everyday lifesaving efforts—RWE and Jennings made a joint donation of £10,000 to the charity.

However, our planning and association with their team members gave us not only reassurance but a unique insight into their professionalism and dedication to help others.”
The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team is the busiest in the UK, often responding to multiple calls in a single day. Entirely volunteer-run, the team relies heavily on community contributions to sustain its operations. The £10,000 donation will help them continue their essential work.
This collaboration between RWE, Jennings, and Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team underscores the importance of partnerships in tackling challenges and supporting local communities.
