RWE, one of the UK’s leading energy generators, is launching Mini COP 2025, a first-of-its-kind sustainability programme designed specifically for Norfolk’s primary schools. Set to debut at the Royal Norfolk Show on Thursday 26th June 2025, Mini COP 2025 will bring together 30 local primary schools in a unique forum that empowers young students to take the lead on climate action in their communities.
This pioneering initiative is being hosted with the support of the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association (RNAA), who are providing a platform at the Royal Norfolk Show to launch the programme in front of a regional audience. The event marks the beginning of a long-term educational journey, with ongoing support from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of East Anglia, whose Climate Ambassadors will help guide the initiative’s future development.
“Mini COP 2025 is about putting Norfolk’s young people at the heart of the climate conversation,” said Denise Hone, Senior Stakeholder Manager at RWE. “We’re proud to launch this initiative right here in Norfolk, where our renewable energy projects are already shaping a greener future.”
Each participating school will send two student representatives to the launch event, where they will present a sustainability-themed flag designed by their school and take part in interactive workshops led by climate experts and RWE leaders. The event will also include a Pledge Workshop, where students will set practical goals to reduce their school’s carbon footprint.
The agenda features local and national voices in climate leadership, including Corrine Barry, East Coast Director at RWE, and Asher Minns, Executive Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.
“This is more than just a one-day event,” said Sam Cook, Skills Liaison Officer at RWE. “Mini COP is the beginning of a long-term initiative for Norfolk schools to become champions of sustainability and climate responsibility.”
Mini COP 2025 reflects RWE’s commitment to Norfolk, where it is developing the Vanguard West, East and Boreas offshore wind farms, some of the UK’s largest offshore wind projects.
