Swindon, 11 March 2026

RWE, the UK’s largest energy generator, is launching a public consultation on its updated plans for a new decarbonised gas-fired power station on the Humber Estuary, approximately 3.5 km east of Stallingborough village.

Local people are encouraged to learn more about the plans and have their say at a public consultation launching on Wednesday 11 March and running for eight weeks until 11.59 pm on 6 May 2026.

The proposed power station would be capable of generating up to 900 megawatts (MW) of electricity, enough to power around one million homes, and would be fitted with cutting-edge carbon capture technology. The consultation will include the plans for ‘corridors’ to develop both an underground natural gas pipeline to connect to the National Gas transmission system between Easington and Hatton, and an electrical grid connection to National Grid’s substation west of Great Coates.

Councillor Philip Jackson, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, commenting on the proposals and consultation, said: “Plans for a new power station in Stallingborough offer an exciting opportunity to stimulate economic growth, investment and employment in the region, creating jobs for local people and providing funding to support valuable community projects.

He continued, “Local input will be essential to shape these proposals in a way that best benefits our community. As with the earlier non-statutory consultation, residents should take the time to actively engage at this stage of development, and make their views heard.”

The project represents a significant investment in the Humber region, creating over 50 full-time, high-quality jobs for local people and supporting over 1,250 jobs during the five-year construction period, as well as stimulating local economic development.

RWE would like to invite the local community to learn more and have their say by visiting the project website, or by attending one of four in-person events at:

  • Immingham Civic Centre, Pelham Road, Immingham, DN40 1QF on Friday 27 March 2026 from 2pm – 7pm.
  • Stallingborough C of E Primary School, Station Road, Stallingborough, DN41 8AP on Tuesday 14 April 2026 from 2pm – 7pm.
  • Great Coates Village Hall, Cooks Lane, Great Coates, Grimsby, DN37 9NW on Friday 24 April 2026 from 2pm – 7pm.
  • Keelby Village Hall, King Street, Keelby, DN41 8EE on Saturday 25 April 2026 from 10am – 2:30pm.

In addition to the in-person events, the team will also be hosting two online webinars. Register here. These will be held on:

  • Tuesday 24 March 2026 from 6:30pm - 7:30pm.
  • Tuesday 21 April 2026 from 6:30pm - 7:30pm.

Consultation materials will be available online and at the following locations for viewing during the consultation period, with feedback accepted until 6 May 2026;

  • Immingham Library, Pelham Rd, Immingham DN40 1QF, Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm and Saturday 9am – 1pm.
  • Bishop King Community Centre, Wingate Road, Willows Estate, Grimsby, DN37 9DW, Monday 12pm - 3pm, Thursday 9am - 2pm and Friday 10:30am-2:30pm.

Jon Pearce, Project Director, RWE Generation, commenting on the proposals and consultation, said: “Since our initial consultation in Spring 2024, our team has been reviewing feedback, engaging with local stakeholders, and completing additional environmental surveys and assessments. This has helped refine our proposals which we are pleased to present.

“By investing in carbon capture and storage technology, this new power station can help to further cement the Humber’s role at the forefront of energy innovation, while stimulating local investment. This consultation is an important stage of the design development process, and we look forward to hearing from local people over the coming months.”

The proposal is classed as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) and will proceed through the Development Consent Order (DCO) planning process. The final decision on whether to grant consent for the project will be made by the Secretary of State for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, following examination by the Planning Inspectorate.

Detailed information about the proposals, and the methods for providing feedback can be found at the project website: rwe.com/stallingborough or contact the project team by email or phone on 01469 818004. Upon request, consultation documents are available and can be posted, or made available in alternative accessible formats.
