  • Project will target a future Contract for Difference in advance of a final investment decision

Swindon, 14 May 2026

RWE and SSE are delighted to confirm the joint venture project North Falls Offshore Wind Farm (North Falls) has received planning consent from Lord Whitehead on behalf of the UK Energy Secretary.

The project would be located approximately 40 kilometers from the East Anglia coast at its nearest point and would be an extension to the southern array of the existing 504 megawatt (MW) Greater Gabbard1 Offshore Wind Farm.

The Development Consent Order (DCO) allows for the construction of up to 57 wind turbine generators, their associated foundations and up to two offshore substation platforms and associated foundations. Following DCO, the project will fine tune its designs in order to determine the final installed capacity.

With an installed generating capacity of approximately 1 gigawatt (GW), North Falls would be capable of generating enough clean, low carbon electricity to power the equivalent of hundreds of thousands of typical UK homes each year.

You can view the Secretary of State’s decision letter here via the Planning Inspectorate’s website.
