Next week, RWE will join industry leaders from across the world at the UK’s International Investment Summit, as the new government drives forward its missions for economic growth and clean power.

Together with leaders from major companies investing in the UK from across the energy, industry and technology sectors, RWE CEO Markus Krebber will discuss how investment can help unlock a green economy and in doing so, generate high quality jobs, support supply chains and create thriving local communities.

RWE is the leading power generator in the UK, and a leading renewable energy company, generating enough electricity for around 12 million UK homes. The company operates a diverse portfolio of onshore and offshore wind, hydro, biomass and gas with a total capacity of almost 10 GW (RWE share). To further strengthen its presence in a highly attractive market, the company intends to invest around €8 billion net in the years 2024 to 2030 in developing clean energy projects in the UK.

With this investment, RWE is committed to expanding its UK footprint, with 2.2 GW of renewables currently under construction across offshore and onshore wind, solar and storage.

RWE is also exploring technologies to decarbonise its existing portfolio of flexible generation, essential to ensuring security of supply. To this end, the company is developing four carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects alongside exploring options for hydrogen combustion at some of its gas plants. Speaking ahead of the investment summit, Markus Krebber, CEO of RWE AG, said:

“The new UK Government has ambitious plans to achieve clean power by 2030. I am delighted to be joining the Summit to discuss how RWE will contribute to achieving this ambition.

As the leading power generator in the UK and a leading renewables developer, the UK is one of our core markets to grow our business. Through mechanisms such as the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, the UK has been one of the most attractive places to invest to deploy renewables. The UK Government now has a real opportunity to align the CfD scheme to its 2030 ambition, and I look forward to discussing this at the Summit.

We have been a pioneer of both onshore and offshore wind in the UK, having developed our first projects more than two decades ago. In addition to our growing wind portfolio, we are forging new investments in solar with 11 projects currently under construction in the UK, in addition to our first UK co-located battery projects.

We look forward to playing a continued, valuable role in providing security of supply, at the same time as reducing emissions and we are exploring using technologies such as carbon capture and hydrogen combustion to achieve this.

I look forward to discussing our investment ambitions with UK Government ministers, officials and like-minded business leaders at the Summit, as we work together to successfully realise the energy transition”

The International Investment Summit will take place on 14th October.
