RWE launches innovative Carbon Capture and Storage education workbook in the UK

Today the National Energy System Operator (NESO) has released analysis of how to achieve Clean Power in 2030 (CP30 Report). This advice was commissioned by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero as part of the Governments 2030 clean power targets.
Tom Glover, RWE UK Country Chair, comments on the CP30 report, “RWE welcomes the publication of the Clean Power 2030 Advice to Government and would like to thank NESO for their extensive consultation with industry. We agree that Clean Power 2030 is a significant challenge, but with swift, bold, and sustained action from the government, regulators, and investors, a secure, clean, and affordable power system is achievable. We are pleased that the report confirms there is no path to clean power without the mass deployment of offshore wind, along with onshore wind and solar, and that it recognizes the value of dispatchable low carbon plants. The Government must now make the necessary decisions quickly to provide the stability and confidence needed to support the substantial investment required – particularly for offshore wind, which the report highlights as critical.
Our analysis also confirms that unabated gas generation continues to be system-critical and required at a level broadly consistent with the current fleet. However, we agree that with sufficient investment in low carbon generation and flexible demand, unabated gas running hours can be reduced to less than 5%, and the carbon intensity of the power system can be at the level indicated in the report. We look forward to continuing to work closely with NESO, the government, regulators, other industry players, and communities to achieve a clean power system that is secure, reliable, affordable, and fair for all."
