Our Head of UK Corporate Affairs, Alice Barrs, is standing for re-election to the Board of RenewableUK. She explains why she is seeking the support of RUK members.

“I’m standing for election to the Board of RenewableUK, because the renewables industry is at a critical juncture. The debate has become increasingly polarised, and the long-standing political consensus on net zero has broken down. Continued support for renewables can no longer be taken for granted.

“As Head of Corporate Affairs at RWE, and a former RUK Board member (2021–2024), I am well placed to support RUK in navigating this complex landscape. I bring a strong track record of communicating the value of clean power: translating policy, economics, and real-world investment into clear, compelling narratives that resonate with policymakers, stakeholders, and the public.

“With over 20 years’ experience across the public and private sectors, I combine strategic insight with practical delivery. If re-elected, over the next three years, I will focus on helping RUK navigate a more complex political and economic environment, while strengthening its role as a trusted, authoritative voice for the sector.

“I will work to rebuild and broaden political and public support for renewables. This means strengthening how we articulate the value of clean power, not only in terms of decarbonisation, but also energy security, economic growth, and jobs. Clear, evidence-based storytelling that resonates both locally and nationally will be critical to restoring consensus.

“I will also support RUK in responding to the increasing intersection of policy, market design, and delivery challenges. Drawing on my background in energy economics and policy, I will contribute to ensuring the association’s positions are analytically robust, credible, and aligned with the realities of project development and investment.

"If this is the kind of voice RUK members want on the Board, I hope they will consider voting for me in this election”
