“The Clean Power Action Plan sets an ambitious target to double onshore wind capacity by 2030, and the Strategy published today firmly establishes the clear actions required to achieve this. We look forward to the newly established Onshore Wind Council driving forward these actions by coordinating stakeholders and monitoring progress.
“The Strategy recognises the pivotal role that onshore wind can play in supporting economic growth – with the potential to support tens of thousands of jobs across the country.
“Onshore wind is also a driving force for social good. With well over two decades of experience in developing and operating onshore wind in the UK, RWE is at the forefront of delivering benefits from its windfarms directly into the communities that host them. For example, last year alone, onshore wind farms operated by RWE in the UK contributed over £3.5 million to local community funds, including over 502 different grants, and helped secure more than £6.1 million in matching funding.
“As one of the cheapest sources of electricity, measures to accelerate the deployment of onshore wind also help to make long-term reductions to bills for all consumers, at the same time as increasing the UK’s energy independence.”
