Heastabhal

Project Introduction

RWE is currently exploring land at Heastabhal for a potential wind farm. Early assessment of the site has suggested it could accommodate a commercial scale wind farm and as such would likely see the proposal have an installed capacity of over 50MW. RWE have recently received feedback along with a scoping opinion from the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit (ECU) and a full community consultation process on our site plans has been completed.

Latest Information

RWE submitted a Scoping Report to the Scottish Governments Energy Consents Unit (ECU) in December 2023 to request a Scoping Opinion. The scoping request sought consultee feedback on the development proposals, the environmental aspects that will be addressed in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the methodologies proposed to undertake these assessments. Importantly, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and other consultees, including local Community Councils, have had the opportunity to provide early comment and feedback. The scoping opinion and feedback submitted are currently being reviewed.

It is important to us that local opinions are heard and taken on board. As such, we recently held a series of public exhibitions to display our plans and seek feedback. Feedback from the exhibitions in addition to the Scoping Opinion and feedback from other Consultees, is currently being reviewed and will be considered as part of the ongoing design process. We will return later in the year for a further round of public exhibitions to display further design iterations.

Community Support

RWE is committed to supporting the communities that neighbour our wind farms. In 2022 alone community funds from wind farms operated by RWE in Scotland invested around £780,000 into local projects.

We are currently seeking input and ideas for the future Heastabhal community benefit fund. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions for the fund, please contact our community investment team.
