Efficient and highly flexible
Pembroke power plant is a combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) station which began commercial operation in September 2012.
The station has a net capacity of 2,181 MW, enough to power around 4 million homes – more than twice the number of households in Wales. The state-of-the-art CCGT technology means that Pembroke is one of the largest and most efficient plants of its kind in Europe. It produces less than half the CO2 emissions compared to a coal-fired power station. Its flexible technology means that Pembroke is able to respond quickly to the market to provide highly flexible and reliable power to meet the country’s requirements.
The plant is located to the west of the town of Pembroke, South West Wales. It is the second power plant that RWE has constructed on the site. It previously hosted an oil-fired power station which operated for almost thirty years and was decommissioned in 1999.
