RWE, Wales’ biggest renewable energy generator, is to host a breakfast event for potential suppliers across north Wales and north west England as it looks to expand the pool of businesses it works with.
The event, which will be held at Venue Cymru, Llandudno on Thursday, 18 May, will offer companies the chance to hear from RWE staff, including those in procurement, as well as from some of the company’s existing supply chain partners.
RWE has a significant presence in north Wales, with offices in Dolgarrog and Port of Mostyn, plus three offshore wind farms, five hydroelectric schemes, and one onshore wind farm, and as a result contributes more than £8m to the region’s economy each year.
The company is also developing proposals for two further onshore wind farms in the region, at Gaerwen and Alwen, as well as the Awel y Môr offshore wind farm.
Eleri Davies, Head of Wales Onshore Wind Development at RWE Renewables said: “With a significant development pipeline as well as our large existing portfolio, now is the ideal time for businesses considering pursuing work in renewable energy to make that move.
“With our long history and significant staff base in the region, we understand that there is the capacity to meet many of our requirements locally, and want to ensure companies are able to understand the opportunities and processes sufficiently well to be able to take advantage.
“I would encourage any business based in north Wales which has the capability or potential to work in this sector to register and attend.”
During the morning briefing, businesses will learn about RWE’s procurement processes in order to understand what action is needed to prepare for upcoming opportunities. Attendees will also gain an understanding of the wider support available to prepare for procurement and will be able to speak directly to the RWE team.
Those attending will also be able to hear from organisations already in the supply chain, who will be on hand to share their own experiences.

For those businesses with colleagues interested in learning more about the skills and employment challenges faced by the wind supply chain and establish ways to support the growth of the sector within north Wales and north west England over the coming decade, RWE, in partnership with EnBW/bp, has also organised an afternoon networking workshop that can be registered to here.
