Swindon, 08 October 2026

RWE has today confirmed completion of the divestment of its 33.33% share in Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm to fellow power generator EDF. As a result of the sale, EDF will take over responsibility for leading the project on behalf of the joint venture partners.

A spokesperson for RWE said: “The priority of the Five Estuaries project is to progress its transition from development into construction and ultimately operation. We’re delighted that EDF, with its long-standing commitment to delivering UK renewables, is committed to maintaining the pace of the project’s ambitions, and we look forward to seeing it come to fruition in the months and years to come.”

Five Estuaries was awarded development consent on 17 December 2025, by the Secretary of State for Energy Security & Net Zero. The project will be constructed in the southern North Sea across two seabed areas covering approximately 128km². The project is consented to comprise up to 79 wind turbines with a maximum tip height of 370 metres, plus foundations. Once fully operational, it would have capacity to power to around 1 million average UK households.

RWE will continue to work with the project in the short term to support the transition to the new owners.

RWE is one of the world’s leading offshore wind companies. It was the biggest winner in last year’s UK Contracts for Difference (CfD) Allocation Round 7 (AR7) for offshore wind, winning awards for five offshore projects amounting to a combined installed capacity of 6.9 gigawatts (GW). RWE has a large pipeline of attractive development projects. Overall, the company intends to expand its offshore wind capacity by a net 5 GW by 2031.
