Potters Hill Solar Farm

Project introduction

Potters Hill Solar Farm will be located to the north west of Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire.

This proposal will be able to generate enough affordable, clean energy to meet the equivalent annual demand of approximately 10,000 Leicestershire homes and save over 698,700 tonnes of CO2 compared to fossil fuel generation. This is equivalent to taking over 413,920 cars off the road over the lifetime of the project. The installation of battery storage will help to ensure energy can be exported when it’s most needed, balancing the grid, and allowing the UK to achieve a fully renewable energy future.

Local feedback is vital to us, and your comments will help to shape the final proposals that are brought forward.

The need for solar

The UK has made a legally binding commitment to achieve a net zero fully decarbonised power system by 2035. This can only be achieved with the adoption and roll-out of reliable, affordable, clean energy sources such as solar.

Melton Borough Council aims to become carbon neutral by 2030 and has committed to promoting sustainability within the borough. Their overarching goal is that the entire borough will be carbon neutral by 2050.

Furthermore, Leicestershire County Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and published its Net Zero Strategy & Action Plan where the council aims to place net zero carbon emissions throughout Leicestershire by 2045.

Solar farms, such as Potters Hill Solar Farm, will make a meaningful contribution to both local and national climate commitments.

Working with communities

Working in partnership with local communities to unlock a project’s full potential is at the heart of what we do. Our work with local people shapes the future of our projects and ensures the benefits of solar energy developments are realised in a way that positively impacts them.

We pride ourselves on listening to, and knowing the communities we work with by prioritising our understanding of local sentiment. We listen to, and build relationships with, the people, organisations, and stakeholders we work with, to understand their views and accommodate change where possible, helping to leave a positive legacy behind when our work is complete.

Public consultation

A community meeting about Potters Hill Solar Farm, featuring informative displays and attendees studying plans and brochures.

As part of our public consultation, we held an in-person consultation event on 26th of March at the Asfordby Parish Hall from 2:30pm to 7pm.

The consultation period will close on the 26th of April, after which we will carefully review comments made, and incorporate feedback into our final application.
