The Dogger Bank South (DBS) offshore wind farm projects are being developed for a shallow offshore area of the North Sea known as Dogger Bank, located over 100km off the northeast coast of England.
DBS comprises two separate sites, DBS East and DBS West. Based on an estimated combined capacity of 3GW, the DBS projects could be capable of generating enough electricity to meet the average annual domestic needs of around 3 million typical UK homes.*
RWE entered into Agreements for Lease for the two DBS projects with The Crown Estate in January 2023. In December 2023, Masdar announced it had acquired a 49 percent stake in the projects. The shareholding agreement between the companies was finalised in February 2024 with RWE leading development, construction and operation on behalf of the project partners RWE (51% share) and Masdar (49% share).
In July 2024, a Development Consent Order application was accepted by the Planning Inspectorate for examination. In July 2025, the Examination formally closed and a consent decision is anticipated within six months.
